The Aviation Photo Galleries are arranged as listed below. Select the ERA and SERVICE of your choice and then click on the GO! symbol next to it. You will be linked to the appropriate page with the available photo sets for the aircraft from that era and service.

There are some things to note about how we place aircraft in these categories. The choice of U. S. or foreign is based on the country of origin. Any aircraft designed and built in the United States is shown in the U. S. Aircraft category regardless of the national markings displayed on the subject. For example, an F/A-18 Hornet in Swiss markings or an F6F Hellcat in British markings would both be in the U. S. Aircraft category.

Aircraft are place in an era category based on when the aircraft saw most of its operational service. For example, the prototype of the F8F Bearcat first flew during World War II, and a few actually entered squadron service before the end of the war. However almost all of the Bearcat’s operational service occurred after World War II, so any photo sets for the F8F would be in the Post World War II category. In rare cases, one aircraft will span two categories. Earlier variants of the F4U Corsair would be found in the World War II category, while later ones would be in the Post World War II category.

When an aircraft flew with both the Navy and the Air Force, any given set will contain photographs of only one service. This means that Navy F-4 Phantoms will be found in the Navy sets, and Air Force F-4s will be in the Air Force sets. Other types, like A-7 Corsairs and C-130s will likewise be separated by service. In some cases, the Navy, Marines, and the Coast Guard will be treated together. When this is done, it will be indicated in the title of the photo gallery.

PRIOR TO WORLD WAR II:
